KPUM LAW AWARDS.

                                                                                        Date: Friday, 27th August 2010
Venue: Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, Petaling Jaya

The KPUM Law Awards was made into quite a glamorous affair in the year of 2010. In true awards fashion, shortlisted award candidates and award presenters were in attendance decked in their finest attire for KPUM’s biggest night for the term of 2010/2011.

Prior to the event proper, the KPUM Organising Committee opened the application process for the annual KPUM Law Awards. The awards are aimed at recognising the outstanding achievement (in both academic and extracurricular realms) of Malaysian students reading law in the United Kingdom.

As with previous years, the 3 most prestigious law firms in the country played a proactive role in making this event a success. Zaid Ibrahim & Co., Azmi & Associates and Raja, Darryl and Loh graciously agreed to sponsor the KPUM Law Awards 2010. As part of their efforts to encourage and to develop Malaysian law students’ skills and abilities, the sponsor firms very generously offered spectacular prizes to the eventual award winners.

After receiving an overwhelming number of applications throughout the month of July, these applications were then forwarded to the respective sponsor firms, who had the arduous task of deciding which candidates were the most deserving ones. The shortlisted candidates were then invited to attend the Awards Dinner – a ritzy function which served as both a platform for law students and lawyers to network and basically an opportunity for a group of university students with similar interests to have a good time.

The Awards recipients were announced after a sumptuous dinner by the senior partners from each sponsor firm, with plenty of suspense thrown into the mix (think live telecast of the Oscars, or the Golden Globe Awards).

It is now with great pleasure that KPUM announce the Award winners for 2010, according to the award categories:

The Raja, Darryl & Loh Excellence Award (for Second Years) went to Mr William Chan Guang Yu from the University of Cambridge. He received a offer letter guaranteeing a prestigious internship position at Raja, Darryl & Loh with the firm’s most senior partner and a cash prize of GBP 200.00.

The Azmi & Associates Award of Excellence for Best Third Year Law Graduate 2010 went to Mr Chan Mun Fei from King’s College London. He received a challenge trophy, an offer letter guaranteeing a prestigious internship position with Azmi & Associates, with an allowance of GBP 200.00.

The Zaid Ibrahim & Co. Excellence Award for Meritorious Bar Vocational Course Scholar 2010 went to Mr Daniel Tan from BPP Law School, Leeds. He received an offer letter guaranteeing a position in Zaid Ibrahim & Co.’s Trainee Associate Programme.

The Zaid Ibrahim & Co. Excellence Award for Best Bar Vocational Course Scholar 2010 went to Mr Lim Khan Ruey from College of Law. He received a GBP 300.00 cash prize, and an offer letter guaranteeing a position in Zaid Ibrahim & Co.’s Trainee Associate Programme.

The Zaid Ibrahim & Co. Excellence Award for Best Overall United Kingdom  Law Student 2010 went to Mr Eric Lee Vui Loong from Nottingham Law School. He received a GBP 400.00 cash prize, and an offer letter guaranteeing a position in Zaid Ibrahim & Co.’s Trainee Associate Programme.

KPUM’s final event for term 2010/2011 was a memorable one, and a sincere word of appreciation should be extended to:

      - The amazing sponsor firms – Zaid Ibrahim & Co., Azmi & Associates and Raja, Darryl & Loh – that proved that they were the best law firms in the country, and that they were organisations that took the extra effort to support to cause of legal education

      - The exceptionally talented and brilliant applicants. The event was organised in your honour, to celebrate your achievements. Thank you as well to the parents of shortlisted candidates who took the time to attend the dinner event in the place of the candidates themselves, who could not be in attendance.

      - The ever-diligent and thorough KPUM Committee, who pieced the Law Awards together, bit by painstaking bit.

Our heartiest congratulations are extended once again to the Award Recipients!
